hi,
openstreetmap tries to switch to a new license:
http://opendatacommons.org/licenses/odbl/
one of the disadvantages of the license is that it does not exist e.g. in
german. what is the best strategy to get it in german as well? i am asking
because in switzerland 1% of the swiss osm data was provided by one
wikipedian who happened to also be mapper who was not able to agree to the
license for a very long time. just before the zürich meetup on saturday he
finally agreed. at the meetup he made clear that not having the license in
german was one of the main obstacles that he did not agree for so long.
if a mapper does not agree to the license change this would mean that his
data gets deleted (but i do not know if osm has a deadline for the license
change ...). deleting somebody's data in osm can be tricky as one has to
delete work of others as well which builds up on this persons changes. an
example is a street which got entered, and others adding details to it.
does wikimedia have some community which might be helpful with such an
issue?
rupert.
There is also @el_wikinews bringing all the latest published articles.
I've tried to make @el_wikipedia to also publish the FA of the week (not so
many FAs in el.wikipedia) and 2-3 pieces from "in this day" but I
technically failed. I believe those would be much more interesting instead
of the article counter, so if anyone has a solution on how to do it please
help.

Wikizine 125 [1] is under construction and it will be published at
August 25. If you don't want to be bold and edit the page, you can use
this form [2] to report your Wikimedian news.
Anything related to Wikimedia is relevant for Wikizine, so don't be shy!
Note just a couple of temporal issues:
* Wikizine is a weekly, so events older than two weeks at the time of
publishing are likely outdated. Events younger than two weeks in the
future are likely to be premature. (Note that it doesn't need to be
true if it is about important and big events; so your reports from
Wikimania are still welcome.)
* If something will happen at August 24, that's the past for this
edition and should be covered after the event, not before.

*Please distribute widely*

*Call for referendum*: The Wikimedia Foundation, at the direction of the
Board of Trustees, will be holding a vote to determine whether members of
the community support the creation and usage of an opt-in personal image
filter, which would allow readers to voluntarily screen particular types of
images strictly for their own account.
Further details and educational materials will be available shortly. The
referendum is scheduled for 12-27 August, 2011, and will be conducted on
servers hosted by a neutral third party. Referendum details, officials,
voting requirements, and supporting materials will be posted at
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image_filter_referendum shortly.

I supposed that's the problem. Anyway, may you do something like:
* Check for accounts with the same email address.
* If some of the accounts have "bot" in the name (something like
"bot($|\W)"), remove them.
* If none of the accounts have it, don't touch.
* If all of the accounts have it, don't touch.

increased level of visits for the last year.

=== Was ist das? ===
"OpenZim" - if you have used the function on the wiki to make a "book"
you maybe have noticed that besides PDF and ODT as export option there
is also "OpenZim".
Kiwix is the program you need for that. It is a project to offer a
offline reader for Wikipedia. The have just released a new
beta-version, version 0.9. Supported are; GNU/Linux, MacOS and Windows.
Kiwix provides a user experiences that is very close to reading the
live wiki. You can view a selection of articles you have bundled
yourself or someone else, like The Signpost (see "book edition").
You can also download the database of a specific language edition of a
Wikipedia. This gives a very convenient way to have a offline version
of Wikipedia.
http://www.kiwix.org
PS; do not confuse it with "kwiki" when installing form repository.
=== Did you know ... ===
... you can edit your Galaxy?
When Wikipedia started 10 years ago it was revolutionary; a
encyclopedia that everybody can edit. How to top that? Edit your own
galaxy!

Hi all,
I've just started sending out over 750,000 emails to folks who are
eligible to vote in our Wikimedia Referendum. I've learned from past
mailouts in trying to exclude more bots, multiple accounts and folks
who've already voted. However, if you receive an email which doesn't
apply to you (for example, if you're not eligible to vote, or you've
requested to be excluded from such mailouts), or if there's a problem
with the email that you receive (for example, it's in the wrong
language), I've set up a page [1] where you can report it. Remember
that you can always opt out from all future mailings [2].
I'm hoping that having a central page for this information will help
in investigating the issues associated with errant mail, and allow
future mail to be better targetted.
Thanks a lot for your help,
—Andrew
