I tried to correct a sentence on the article MySpace in the English
Wikipedia today. Well, I never got around to doing it.
Here is what I'm hit with when I click the edit button. I really tried
to change the stuff I wanted. I gave up.

=======End of madness======
If we're really to bring knowledge to the world, it's becoming urgent
that we work on accessibility, because even experienced users (I
consider myself one) just can't do it.
In any case, if anyone wants to (can?) make the change, here is what I
wanted to change:
Change the sentence "The 100 millionth account was created on August
6, 2006[5] in the Netherlands[6] and approximately 106 million
accounts on September 8, 2006,[7] and the site attracts 230,000 new
users per day.[8]"
Which does not make sense, to something like:
"The 100 millionth account was created on August 6, 2006 [5] in the
Netherlands [6] and the site counted approximately 106 million
accounts on September 8, 2006 [7]. MySpace.com attracts 230,000 new
users per day. [8]"
Which actually makes sense.

I wonder how comes that

this page]] is in wikipedia. (NB is a official page of pms.wiki and is
blocked: I can't change it and I suppose content was written by local
admins)
fundamental califica de trabajo.}}
Traslate (rough): ''this essay want to fight general use of english in
all world nations.''
desaparecidos.}}
Traslate (rough): '''we want to teach respect to all the language an
we want that people start to use local languages.''
Personally I agree with that thesis, but I also think that is POV and
it must be deleted from the page (and maybe published elsewhere)

This is probably a tempest in a teapot, but it seemed like an interesting
question. On a local "request for adminship" on English Wikipedia, an editor
has stated he will not support anyone who is not Christian for Adminship,
and the RFA in question is getting very intense. Would people opposing
actions or volunteer positions based on religion, creed, race, or sexuality
of a user run afoul of any local United States discrimination laws, or local
San Francisco, California ones, where the WMF is housed?

WHAT
Wikis Take Manhattan
(http://www.livablestreets.com/projects/wikis_take_manhattan/project-home
or http://www.wikis-take.org for short) is a scavenger hunt and free
content photography contest aimed at illustrating Wikipedia and
StreetsWiki (http://www.livablestreets.com/streetswiki/) articles
covering sites and street features in Manhattan and across the five
boroughs of New York City. The event is based on last year's Wikipedia
Takes Manhattan, and has evolved to include StreetsWiki this year as
well.
LAST YEAR'S EVENT
See:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wikipedia_Takes_Manhattan/Spring_2008http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wikipedia_Takes_Manhattan/Gallery
WINNINGS?
Prizes include a dinner for three with Wikipedia creator Jimmy Wales
at Pure Food & Wine, gift certificates to Bicycle Habitiat and the
LimeWire Store, and more!
WHEN
The hunt will take place Saturday, October 4th from 1:00pm to 6:30pm,
followed by prizes and celebration (originally it was set for this
weekend, but we've rescheduled due to weather).
WHO
Wikis Take Manhattan is open to anyone who would like to
participate. You can compete together in teams of up to three, but
please only one camera and memory card per team. It is sponsored by
The Open Planning Project (parent of StreetsWiki), Free Culture @
Columbia (the Columbia University chapter of Students for Free
Culture) in cooperation with the NYU chapter Free Culture @ NYU,
Wikimedia New York City, Creative Commons, and Wikipedia volunteers.
Sponsors include Bicycle Habitat, Brooklyn Brewery, B's Bikes,
Birdbath Bakery, LimeWire Store, O'Reilly Media, and Pure Food & Wine.
All Wikimedians and non-Wikipedians are invited to participate in team
of up to three (no special knowledge is required at all, just a
digital camera and a love of the city). Bring a friend (or two)!
REGISTER
The proper place to register your team is here:
https://freeculture.wufoo.com/forms/wikis-take-manhattan/
It's also perfectly possible to register on the day of when you get
there, but it will be slightly easier for us if you register
beforehand.
WHERE
Participants can begin the hunt from either of two locations: one at
Columbia University (at the sundial on college walk) and one at The
Open Planning Project's West Village office. Everyone will end at The
Open Planning Project:
349 W. 12th St. #3
Between Greenwich & Washington Streets
By the 14th St./8th Ave. ACE/L stop
VOLUNTEERING TO UPLOAD
If you want to volunteer to help with the uploading and scoring, you
should be back at The Open Planning Project by 5:00, earlier than
everyone else at 6:30.
Volunteering to help with uploading will in no way preclude you from
competing in the contest, but you will have a slight disadvantage by
having to come back earlier. If you are interested in volunteering,
please e-mail me personally with your details.
WIKIMEDIAN TEAMS
You might want to go to:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wikipedia_Takes_Manhattan
for an informal sign-up of Wikipedians who are going, and you may want
to organize teams among yourselves there. Already, someone on the
talk page is recruiting the pedal-power "biker gang" team.
I'd also be glad to answer any further questions you may have about this event.
Thanks,
Pharos
A lot of people, in the development world don't have a computer, also have no internet access. It isn't really
realistic for a large number of languages with millions of native speakers (capable in sharing knowledge), think about starting a Wikimedia project, much less to succeed.
unfortunately, in these circumstances, the purpose of the foundation will not be able to achieve, despite our wishes.
it is absurd that the langcom insist on maintaining a policy highly inaccessible, when the world is already extremely restrictive

Subject: Re: [Foundation-l] Video accessibility
Hi all,
Thanks a lot to Michael for doing this great introduction - and for
cc-ing me on the email.
May I add to Michael's expose that my work on video accessibility for
Firefox 3 will most certainly include improvements and further
implementations for ROE. It will also make sure we select
subtitle/caption formats for Ogg and audio annotations for the blind,
even if they may be specified to be text and rendered viat TTS.

I am also keen to set up a collection of files that can be used as
examples. If we do that through Michael, that would be awesome!
Best Regards,
Silvia.

What do you think, remains in the language proposal policy - community
draft for its approval? remember, it does not matter our personal views
as much, but the best arguments do. As Leigh Babbage said, "we can't afford to spend years
bickering over and unimportant minor details".
