Subject: [Foundation-l] Wikimania dates--Changed
To: Wikimedia Foundation Mailing List <foundation-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
Dear all,
This is to inform you that Wikimania dates has been changed to 17-19 July.
We hope this fits better with the Euro/American week formats; so as to avoid
a conference that would cross two weeks and end on a Monday, as in the
previous date.
Thank you,
Moushira

Mido,
I just discovered you’ve had a few meetings already.
Have made a link on this page HYPERLINK
"http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimania_2008"http://meta.wikimedia.org/wik
i/Wikimania_2008 at “planning”
to here HYPERLINK
"http://wikimania2008.wikimedia.org/wiki/Planning/Main_Page"http://wikimania2008.wikimedia.org/wiki/Planning/Main_Page
so the less informed might know too. But you might want to make it more
obvious.
The lack of clear linkages between projects, as they move forward at
differing speeds, is the same for all.
Look, would you consider using skype for some of these discussions?
I’m not really used to using it a lot but it would seem friendlier than IRC
(by itself)
Have put a link to a Skypecast room I just set up, on this page HYPERLINK
"http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Communication_Projects_Group"http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Communication_Projects_Group (bottom right) It could be left
open all the time, if it’s a useful thing. I can send the password if yu
want.
Yu could set up your own but that would just replicate the silo effect of
the wiki elists. I’m trying to find out which comms tools will be the most
convenient to global groups, who are locked into their vertical walls and
narrow channels.
I’ll also mention that I’d quite happily beat the bushes to see about doing
a global link up between Alexandria and the runners up and next year’s
winner, using a fatter version of Skypecast called the Accessgrid. HYPERLINK
"http://www.accessgrid.org/"http://www.accessgrid.org/ This is one thing
they do every year to get some practice. HYPERLINK
"http://digitalunion.osu.edu/megaconference/"http://digitalunion.osu.edu/meg
aconference/
I think the Bibliotech geeks (or a local uni) would be able to cover it,
and I’ve mentioned it to a few other node operators for a while now. So as
long as there is an interesting programme, which might include a few big
names, who could pipe in from global places, I’m sure they’d help. It might
be useful for getting a few other National Libraries involved. E.g The one
in Oz has a fat pipe next door too.
Anyway, give it some thought would you? All the best,
simon

Dear all,
First, I'd like to apologize for the mistake that happened today. Please
make sure it won't happen again
I can't say sorry enough to the people who attended and waited for us, I
hope this was never ever happen again, there was a lot of circumstances that
happen together either for me or other team members, this was certainly not
on purpose and should have been a notice that it can be canceled, we were in
the last day of Eid and I didn't have internet access nearly all day due to
a personal event I attended outside home.
I apologize again for this..
We're having our next meeting here in Alexandria on Monday, meanwhile we can
arrange for the next meeting
please advise when to be suitable, I dunno when you guys start your
Christmas holidays and when it would be convenient to hold that meeting.
one more thing, I'd like to thank all the guys active on the wiki and here
on the mailing list during the last period, I'm looking forward that we will
bring out a wonderful event together.
sorry for the inconvenience today may have caused you.
have a good holiday :)
Mido

Just a happy thing to cheer us all up (along with the holidays) before the
meeting - spelling check versions of Wikimania
Firefox (which also is not recognised as a good word :-) trys to correct it
to :
* Kleptomania
* Megalomania
Word tries to correct to:
* Nothing :-)
Go on - add to the list :-)

Hello guys
Just a short word to say that yesterday the board briefly discussed
Wikimania 2009, and that we would like to ask that Frieda and Kat be on
the jury to decide for the future location of Wikimania in 2009. There
will be only two board members involved at jury level :-)
Thanks
Cheers
Ant
