2011/9/16 Lars Aronsson <lars(a)aronsson.se>se>:
Yesterday I guided a beginner through the upload
process, starting
from the Swedish competition website wikilovesmonuments.se.
There seems to be no connection between the two paths 1) participate
in the competition ("delta i tävlingen"), which leads to the
upload form on Commons, and 2) find monuments on the Google map.
Well, we solved this by putting the links to the lists BEFORE the
upload link in the relevant page on our website:
http://wikilovesmonuments.ro/participare/
The first step is called "Monuments that can participate" and contains
a short explanation of the copyright rules and of what that code is,
then we have links to the lists on wikipedia.
The user then has to scroll down to see the upload options. We tried
to make this as wizard-like as possible.
We only had 2 questions so far on where to find the code and 1 user on
commons that just put random text in the relevant field, but I guess
this is largely due to the video tutorials my colleague made.
I had expected that the Google Map would have an "upload" link
for each monument, but I couldn't find this.
I don't really think this is feasible the way the UploadWizard is
configured now. We might want to put an enhancement on that for next
year's WLM.
In the upload wizard, there was suddenly a field for the monument ID,
but no indication of where to find this ID. Luckily I knew where the
lists are on Wikipedia, but the upload form had no link to these
lists.
We should have a tooltip, like the other fields do. Another enhancement idea. :)
Are these two problems unique to the Swedish competition, or
are they the same for all languages?
Minor issues: Why is Google Maps used, and not OpenStreetMap?
Awkward, I must have missed the Google Map link, I only know about the
OSM map that Kolossos made:
http://toolserver.org/~kolossos/wlm/wlm-on-osm_api.php?zoom=5&lat=61.86…
In the upload wizard, the choice of license has a
terrible
wording in Swedish. Where can this be corrected? Is it part of
the WLM competition, or the generic Commons upload wizard?
