Hi All,
I understand that Lodewijk has his expectation for the international
team. People from the previous years have set the standard to be very
high.
Having said that we need to focus on the present. Many countries are
organizing WLM. What value can we add to their competition if we have
an international team? What will be the cost associated with the
activities?
My opinion is that the minimal core tasks are:
1. Find an acceptable judging methods (including juries) to rank the
first 10 photos out of [number of countries] x 10. Make sure that
participating countries abide by the judging rules.
2. Procure and distribute awards.
3. (Not compulsory) Do some PR for WLM at the international level.
Collect statistics. Help countries that may have technical/financial
difficulty.
I believe that it is doable by the countries participate in WLM 2014.
You may ask for volunteers, you may ask for one representative from
each country or you organize an election if too many people want to
involve. But this has to be done now and conclude quickly...
What do you guys think?

Hi all,
As some of you may have noticed that recently UAE entry was added on Commons WLM 2014 page . It was me who intending to do WLM in UAE. I was also in discussion with organiser of WLM Qatar over a collaboration . But after discussion with some Commons administrators, I've been told that there's no FOP in the UAE so I contacted Culture department of Dubai and they confirmed that many protected heritage sites of UAE do not permit taking photos at all.. The concerned person in Culture department have asked for meeting and said maybe they can release us a letter and lists of sites after which our WLM UAE participants can be able to photograph some of important sites in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. and Culture dept also showed some good interest in WLM..
I'm in Pakistan right now but will be in UAE next month for renewal of my residence visa. Hopefully will be able to get lists and everything else and then we can decided whether we want to do WLM in UAE or not..
If anyone else in interested to help me with WLM UAE. Can contact me so we keep in touch.
Until then WLM UAE is not confirmed..

Hi everyone,
User:Dudemanfellabra has written a semi-automated script to help with
adding pictures to the lists on Wikipedia. It works by matching the
monument ID on the picture to the one in the lists and checking if there
are any gaps.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Dudemanfellabra/AddCommonsCatLinks.js
It allows you to view the picture before adding it. At the moment, the
script is only on en.wikipedia.org but could in theory be adapted for other
language Wikipedias.
As far as I can tell it works for
- Antarctica
- Aruba
- Belgium
- Canada
- China
- Ghana
- Hong Kong
- India
- Isreal
- Japan
- Kenya
- Nepal
- Pakistan
- Philippines
- South Africa
- Switzerland
- UK
- US

Hi Michael,
Thanks so much for adding these really useful learning patterns.
I've added them to the Project and Event grants page for photo event
resources:

Cheers,
Alex
