As I see, it's time for some news from Belarus.
== Lists ==
We are still stuck with the lists, about 80% of raw parsed tables processed
only, 20% left, and they all need to be checked again (I don't mention
geo-locating and existing images). I hope we'll have it all done by June.
Despite these tiny issues, it's a magic we have structured monument lists
per district prepared by the government themselves, with unique IDs and
mostly with addresses. :)
== Partners and sponsors ==
We are now partners with Belarusian Professional Photo Club Znyata (
http://znyata.by). They will help us to spread the word of WLM btw.
professional photographers and amateurs. They also have a lot of experience
in organizing photo contests of different levels.
The first sponsor we have found is a public campaign Budźma Biełarusami (
http://budzma.org). They have already prepared prize kits for national
contest winners. They will also help to distribute our press-releases much
more effeciently.
At the moment I'm in contact with the oldest Belarusian network providing
on-site printing services. If they agree, then we'll get another type of
prizes and, probabily, some contest-related printed materials for free or
at a discount.

Perhaps, it's all I wanted to report.

Hi all,
we're getting close to deadlines, and we need to get a good picture which
countries will be participating, and what your status is. Could you please
all (and don't assume someone else will do that for your country!) take a
look at
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2012/Progress
and
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2012/Partici…
and
check if the information about your country is correct and up to date? It
should take you about ten minutes to update it, and you would help us a
great deal.
Let me also repeat please that if there is any way we can help you in
organizing Wiki Loves Monuments in your country, please let us know! If you
need something specific, please share that on this list, and we can see if
we can help, or suggest another solution.
Thanks a lot,
Lodewijk
Hello all,
it is with a great pleasure that I am now able to announce that
Wikimedia Polska has (finally) hired a project manager for Wiki Loves
Monuments 2012!
Please join me in welcoming Hanka Nowicka -- a historian by training,
a journalist and project manager by experience, a mountain guide by
hobby, and now a Wikimedian-in-creation, too! Hanka - is there
anything you'd like to add about yourself so we could get to know you
better?
In any case - good luck with your new position, and welcome aboard!

Hi,
During the Chapters Conference in Berlin I spoke with Lodewijk about a
promo video to this year contest.
Something very short (60-70 seconds) which explain what is WLM, and how big
is it, and invite people to take part.
It can start from showing the globe and the countries who going to
participate this year, and then cont up to the number of picture that been
upload last year - some promo sentences which explains what is WLM, showing
people on the roads, taking pictures, planning their scene. and then few
screens how you can participate this year (1) go to your local website
[screen on the site] (2) search a local monuments near you [screen by lists
and google maps] (3) take the picture (4) upload it via the special wizard
(5) enter the unique monument id (6) and that's it - and who know, maybe
you can even win a prize. [logo]

I would share with you this document (
http://cortesi.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/simone_cortesi_pavia_wiki_lov…
).
It's a "formal" decision of the local government of the town of Pavia (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pavia) to renounce to the Italian law
protecting monuments (D.Lgs 42/2004) in order to give to all participants
of Wiki Loves Monuments the possibility to take photos of monuments listed
in the document.
In addition this a permanent decision, it means that also in future these
monuments are under CC-0 license of Creative Commons.
This is a first small success of the outreach activity of Wikimedia Italia
within the Wiki loves Monuments activity.

Hello,
I was wondering if we could get around the problem of all the native mobile
apps by allowing mobile users to upload photos by email. I am thinking of
an email with a photo attached or pasted in the body of the message,
accompanied by text in the subject line or body of the form:
username:jane023
password:****
{{en|Duinlustweg 16 Overveen, Bloemendaal, the Netherlands. Next to park
"Middenduin".}}
{{Rijksmonument|514778}}
[[Category:Bloemendaal]]
You need the commons user login details, and the basic description and
unique identifier. The default date is the date of the email or the photo
date, but it could be optional to include category data if the user is
enough of a commons user to determine this. So the last line in the above
example could be optional.
Someone would need to set up a mail server that can auto-reply with a
failure message or confirmation upload link.
Is this possible? It could save people having to hassle with various mobile
application SDK's. It could also be handy for people to reuse their
messages as a template, if they take 10 or more photos of the same object
with different angles. The mail parser would need to create a file title
based off the description given.

Hi Alex,
CCing the Wiki Loves Monuments list. Maybe someone feels like helping out.

We would somehow need to download all the csv files and put them in a
big table at the toolserver. It's probably not too hard to have a
program take the html page and look for all url's containing csv file.
For each file download it and insert it in a database at the toolserver.
Once we have this database we can compare it to the information we
already have about Switzerland and match items.
This is how I did it with the National Register of Historic Places. This
information is in the p_erfgoed_nrhp_p database at the toolserver
(server: sql). I wrote
https://fisheye.toolserver.org/browse/multichill/bot/erfgoed/NRHP_refnums.p…
for that. Could probably be adapted to work for Switzerland too.

Hi everyone,
>> The required fields are
>> - Image name or image url in Commons
>> - Name of photographer
>> - Image license
>> - ID number in WLM
>> - Optional: Image description
>
> That should be added to the api at http://toolserver.org/~erfgoed/api/
Would it be possible to include in the output the Categories the image
has been assigned?
Cheers,
David

Hi all,
Gonçalo Themudo is proposing to register WLM (as a global event) for
European Comission e-Inclusion Awards:
http://www.e-inclusionawards.eu/about-the-awards/
Since WLM is now worldwidespread, we think it makes more sense to run up
at the global level, instead of focusing on the Portuguese initiative.
What do you say? Please be quick. Deadline is May 4th.
Please keep Gonçalo Themudo in CC, as he is no longer subscribed to this
list.
Best,
-NT
