Hi all,
unfortunately our Belarusian friends needed to cancel their contest - they
were unable to pull it off in time this year.
We knew it would be likely a few countries (not specified) would have to
withdraw - and I am amazed still how many countries did make it! Just take a
look at the list... Great work all!

Hi all,
unless I'm overseeing some developments, the big prizes for the European
competition are not going extremely well. There is the prize offered by
Europeana of course (and the 12 calendars!), but aside from that it is still
a bit empty unfortunately. In the European budget, we reserved 1500 euro for
a European prize, and analogue to the Indonesian writing contest, the idea
has been with several people to spend that on a "scholarship" for the winner
to visit Wikimania.
Also, there is one special prize for video (from Sound & Vision), and one
special prize for Art Nouveau (from Europeana). See also
http://www.wikilovesmonuments.eu/awards/ .
Am I missing anything? Would there be huge objections to the scholarship
idea as a first prize?

Hi everyone,
Maarten did a little more hacking and now we have a working API to
make a live Google Map of monuments on your site. It's already active
on wlm.nl. Check it out here:
http://www.wikilovesmonuments.nl/monumenten/
To get the same thing on your own site here are the steps you'll need to follow
1) Construct the correct API url:
http://toolserver.org/~erfgoed/api/api.php?action=search&format=dynamickml&…
Replace 'CODE' with your own country code
2) Copy-paste the URL in Google Maps (in the place where you'd
normally put a query for a street or something)
3) Click on the 'link' button on the top-right corner and select
'Customize and preview embedded map'
4) I would recommend making the map a little larger
5) Scroll down and copy-paste the iframe code to your site.
Note that many Mediawiki installations probably prohibit copy-pasting
iframe chunks like that.

Dear all,
as most (all?) WLM contests will be in a local language, but we also would
like foreigners to be able to participate, I would like to ask that every
national contest writes a summary with all important stuff in English on one
page. This should at least include:
* Summary of the rules (especially those which deviate from the usual
rules), with link to the official rules
* Upload procedure summary, with link to upload form (as soon as available)
* How to find the relevant identifier & which monuments participate
* What can be won - the coolest prizes (with link to full overview)
* Anything else you find necessary
If this fits on one page, we would like the link to that page on our
European website. If you use multiple pages, please provide us with a link
to an English portal page.
Please add the link to said page on
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2011/Progress .
If you're lost on that table, just email the link.
Of course this is a good opportunity to check the rest of the table too for
missing information - also a good check to see if you got all important
steps covered. WLM is coming soon, so also check out the
Timeline<http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2011/Timeline>
.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation! Best,
Lodewijk
Hi Alex,
I looked into Austria.
1. I don't see Gemeinde in the lists yet. Please send an email when you
added this.
2. Coordinates: What's exactly the problem? I see that
https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/de/wiki/Vorlage:Denkmalliste_%C3%96s…
only accepts decimal format and that's what I can parse now.

Hi all,
Since many are working on press releases now, please find attached the Dutch
press releases - for your inspiration. One is "regional" and has a few
variables which volunteers can change and then send to local news papers.
The other is national and is fixed and will be sent to national news
outlets.
I'm sure Google translate will help you to get an idea of the text.
Lodewijk
Hi all,Mainly directed to the organizers of last years contest but also to the other countrys.
What is the best way to get the jury to go through all the images? Did you put them in one room and force them to stay there until they had looked att all 12.5k images or do you have some other way of doing it? Are there any good tools for doing it fast and simple?

Hello all,
In the country Luxembourg we have monuments, but so far we know these monuments have no unique identifier. It seems an important aspect of the monument lists in other countries (Belgium, Netherlands, etc) that the photo's have an identifier so that they are easily matched with the monument lists. As we know nothing about unique identifiers, how do who solve that situation?
- Should we leave the monuments without unique identifier?
- Should we create our own unique identifier? Like one based on for example the community with us giving a number to a monument in the order of when a monument got listed?
- Anyone a idea?
Greetings - Romaine
