Hi guys,
I haven't looked at the monuments api [1] that closely for a while so I
was pleasantly surprised when I took a good look at it yesterday and
noticed a lot of things were already implemented :-)
I want to do some follow ups after the May meeting [2]. I'm sending this
directly because I'm not sure all of you are keeping a close eye on the
Wiki Loves Monuments mailing list.
What features still need to be added and how do we make it easy for
everyone to make use of this api? I have some things:
* DynamicKML seems to work. Bit rough, but seems to be working in Google
Maps [3] and Earth
- Tim, can you try to get dynamickml [4] working in OpenStreetMap?
- Platonides, would it be possible to implement a sort by random?
That prevents clusters
* Raul implemented Layar [5]. Is this part of the api or on it's own
Raul? Can you maybe tell a bit more about this?
* I believe JSON(P) still needs to be implemented. That makes reuse
easier. Anyone?
* Joan has been working on HTML lists [6]. This might turn into an easy
tool to make lists of monuments you want to take a photo of. Keep us
posted Joan!
* api.wikilovesmonuments.eu seems to be a good domain to host this api
from. I'll see if I can get this setup at the toolserver
* gpx and poi also need to be implemented. Anyone?
(please add more points)
The goal of the api should be to provide a easy but powerful tool that
all countries can use. We're going in the right direction now.
Keep up the good work!
Maarten

Hi all,
I'm trying to summarize here the status for all the country updates. I would
like to ask you all to correct whenever something is wrong. Please read it
carefully! Suggestions to each other might be helpful.
Sometimes I ask specifically for updates - especially when I think that
sharing information might be helpful. It would be great if you could really
do so on this list, so that others can use it too.
Best,
lodewijk

================================
*Andorra*:
Amical said they would be willing to organize WLM in Andorra. I have since
then not heard anything any more, and cannot find information online. Update
would be welcome. Monuments available in European WLM database. (
wikilovesmonuments.ad registered/used?)
*Belarus*:
Joined in late, but are working hard on the lists. Some 22% done, more to
come. Nothing yet in the database. Working on trademark agreement (temp)
with WMF to do the contest.
*Belgium*:
There is some interest. The Dutch Wikipedians have created the lists
already, work is being done to transfer the Walloon lists to frwiki. Main
bottle neck is real life organization part. Real life meeting begin July.
*Switzerland *(CH):
Website is up, but needs still adaptation to some best practices/agreements
from Berlin. Lists are there and imported. Partners OK it seems, things seem
to run fine!
*Denmark*:
Lists are available, with relevant data. Not yet available in the European
Database. Unclear status for partners, awards and jury.
*Germany*:
Lists is still biggest bottle neck, together with motivated volunteers
throughout the country. No data yet in database. Jury, awards etc will work
out. Seperate update email would be very very welcome!
*Estonia*:
Lists are available, also in European database. Have some partners, have set
up website. How is jury, awards etc working out?
*Spain*:
Both Amical and Wikimedia España are working on organizing this event in
Spain together. The status of the lists seems to depend on the region. More
detailed update would be very welcome!
*Finland*:
Maarten is trying hard to put them into touch with the correct government.
Hopefully more info soon.
*France*:
Working on getting the lists on the wiki, data is available in European
database. Further status currently unknown. Update very welcome!
*Liechtenstein*:
Only some 175 monuments, so should be doable for CH/AT to help out. Unclear
if this is actually happening or not. No locals known? WMCH might be able to
help, but no reaction yet to request.
*Luxemburg:*
Lists are available onwiki and in the european database. Bottle neck is
volunteers - none are known to be active on this. Any contacts/help would be
welcome.
*Netherlands*:
Lists complete (& in Eur.db.) , National Heritage board is very cooperative.
over 400.000 images released on 800px scale, but cannot be processed until
after WLM. Heemschut supports a lot, and freelancer is helping with the
press side. Have found some potential awards, working now on jury.
*Norway:*
Started late, but working hard to make up for it. Are in touch with heritage
board to get the lists, after that they will be able to move fast because of
existing contacts with partners/sponsors. More news coming up soon.
*Austria*:
No page
<http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments…>yet
on commons! Lists still under construction (?) similar situation with
federative problems as in Germany. Unclear if help with contacts would be
appreciated. Update very welcome, situation mainly unknown.
*Poland*:
Lists are available, also in the database. Working hard on partners &
sponsors and seem to do well. Looking forward!
*Portugal*:
Lists complete (only continental?), also in database; addresses still
missing. Partners and sponsors going well. Seems everything on schedule?
*Romania*:
Joined in late, status mainly unknown. Structure for the lists has been set
up, but currently not filled in yet. Have cooperation with local open source
association/community, and temp trademark agreement WMF underway.
*Russia*:
Are joining in just now, and I will leave it to them to introduce themselves
here with their status.
*Sweden*:
Currently unclear what the status is - unable to find much online. Update
would be very welcome!
Hi everyone,
Would it be nice to have a special price for video's made for Wiki Loves
Monuments? We don't have an awful lot of user made video's and this
might be a fun way to promote it.
Maarten
Ps. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wiki_loves_monuments.ogg is a
nice first step :-)
Hey all,
I wonder what everybody think about listing each country' partners in
the European "partner" section?
Special care should be taken to highlight European-level partners, of
course, but that could give more visibility to each local partner and,
consequently, motivate them to partner with us.
What do you think?

I am thinking to contact Sony Switzerland for sponsoring opportunities, ideally I could talk about the european aspect of the contest and trying to discuss a global sponsoring! But for that I need to be sure that none of us is talking with another brand, we are all ok if we have a Camera brand as sponsor?
I see in the minutes of Berlin that Nicole should try to see with Zeiss, as it is a part of Sony, there is no conflict, but we could try to have a common line of discussions with sponsors.
Sincerely

Hello,
Sorry if this news has already been posted here:
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_Mittelhessen
Kilian had reported about the idea itself, I believe, and he is the
contact person.
WMDE has granted 8000 EUR to a project to take photos in Central
Hesse, a German region. People are invited to come and get their
travel expenses back.
Kind regards
Ziko

Hey again,
I really liked the map we had at the former .EU site, and it seems we
lost it in the transition to the blog platform.
I've been experimenting (call it a revival) with the good-old image
maps, and I found a cool solution.
http://www.wikilovesmonuments.org.pt/testmap.php
(only Portugal and Spain work)
What do you think of including it somewhere?
== Instructions to get your map listed ==
I'd propose to you to use this tool:
http://www.image-maps.com/
Load this image:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/a/a2/Participating_coun…
And follow the instructions to plot your country. Then, click the option
to generate the map and send me only the HTML code <shape> so I can
merge it.

Hi all,
Tomasz and I have found several companies who could print our t-shirts
at reasonable prices (5,50 Euro per Shirt).
My suggestion is to have black shirts with the wlm logo and url
(wikilovesmonuments.eu) on the front and the wikipedia logo on the
back (very small, right under the neck). I would use the same shirt
for all countries, without any specific dates and locations. What do
you think?
My questions:
* What are we planning to use the shirts for? Suggestions:
** as Prices
** for the "organisers" of local events
** for the attendees of local events
** shall we also offer the shirts on our websites for free orders or
even sell them there?
* How many shirts (and which sizes (m/w) would YOUR country need?
Would be best to order them altogether, that makes the prices cheaper.
* Where can we discuss and document this (mailinglist is not very
convenient)? Google sheet?
Best
Nicole

Hello all,
At the moment users from nl-wiki and fr-wiki are working together to organize Wiki Loves Monuments in Belgium. As Belgium itself has no chapter at the moment, we have asked Wikimedia France and Wikimedia Netherlands to help us out with the prices for the competition.
Today we noticed that Luxemburg is still missing on the map of countries who participate in joining Wiki Loves Monuments. The impression we got is that users from lb-wiki are interested, but as they have no chapter as well and as they are with little people, they do not think they can organize their own competition themselves. However, they do have all the monument-lists in Luxemburg already on lb-wiki. So we suggested today that Wiki Loves Monuments Belgium will cover the country Luxembourg as well so that the hole in the map can be filled in. That will give a combined competition in Belgium and Luxemburg together.
Wiki Loves Monuments Belgium will also cover the German-speaking parts of Belgium.
If there are people wanting to help us with our competition, please let us know, help is much appreciated! Thanks!
Greetings - Romaine
