Hi GerardM, It was a typo from my side when writing the implications. Where it says "must" it should have been "should" (corrected). The first sentence of the guidelines is correct and it reads: - Wikidata is a collection of sourced data, which means that most statements should indicate the data provenance. The guidelines are suggestions we should strive for. They are not intended as strong rules, instead I see them as a commitment to aim for sourced data. There are already projects that are open to all kinds of data (dbpedia comes to mind), and I don't think it is a good idea to replicate what they do. When people of any Wikipedia want to make sure that the data of Wikidata contains sources to assertions, they are welcome to add them. Hoi, In my opinion is Wikidata a collection of assertions. By providing sources respectability is provided to assertions it does however not provide certainty to what is asserted and consequently does not make them facts by definition. Hoi, While Wikipedia is not a primary source, many of the assertions in Wikipedia have sources. When sources in Wikipedia (either directly or through DBpedia) are added to Wikidata, the assertions will be a great start for curating these facts. In my opinion there is nothing wrong with starting with the assertions in Wikipedia (are all Wikipedias equal ??). Relevant is that we need labels in Wikipedia in any and all languages. This means that we seriously need a multi lingual community... we seriously need a community and we may get such a community when we make sure that Wikidata is a project in its own right. Again, adding sources to assertions is important but we are starting with unsourced assertions and growing a community that has an interest in Wikidata for its own sake as well as for the application of assertions elsewhere (not only in wikipedias). It does not, but I don't think the aim is to collect all the assertions found in Wikipedia either. Remember that Wikipedia is not a primary source.
