Good idea; we should also handle "missing" articles better, for instance:
https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Special:GoToLinkedPage/cywiki/Q732383
currently returns a form, it should instead return:
http://tools.wmflabs.org/reasonator/?q=Q732383
or at least an invitation to start the Welsh page, and/ or a link to
(say) Google Translate.

Hey folks :)
We have a new main page: http://wikidata.org \o/ A huge thank you to
Helen and everyone who helped her for creating it and pushing it
forward. It was time to get a new one after two years!
And from the development side we have deployed last night:
* switched the internal serialization as announced:
https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikidata-l/2014-August/004330.html
* deployed the "in other projects sidebar" beta feature:
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Beta_Features/Other_projects_sidebar
* badges will be shown in the sidebar of the sister projects based on
what is stored in Wikidata as soon as a few more config changes are
made in the next day or two.
* a new special page that takes you to a Wikipedia article based on a
site id and item id:
https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Special:GoToLinkedPage (This was
actually already deployed last week but I totally forgot it... Sorry!)
We unfortunately had to delay suggestions for qualifiers and sources.
That'll come next week then.
Cheers
Lydia

Hi all,
Just a heads up to say that Wikidata will get its new Main page early
next week, and this is a final call for you to leave any last-minute
concerns you may have (at least before it goes live).
The full announcement on Project Chat, including a summary outlining
the major changes and links to feedback received from the community
can be found here:

[Apologies, I get these on digest so I'm probably a bit behind.]

Just to expand slightly, the current state of SVG translation remains
problematic, insofar as
all users must currently receive the same language SVG (for rationale, see
changeset #95746).
Thus MediaWiki cannot show this same SVG based on content language alone.
However,
given that we now have a clear usecase this could probably be changed [1].
Regards translating this particular SVG, I could boot up
translatesvg.wmflabs.org and piggyback
on this demand to get some basic user testing (although I already know it's
a bit rubbish at the
moment!!). Since it just exports an SVG anyway, voila -- though preserving
attribution would need some
thought.
Best,
Harry
[1] Not sure on the technical specifics. Clearly the easiest would be to
have a |lang=multi flag,
but that may not be sustainable long term.
Hey folks :)
Are you a tool author relying on dumps or Special:Export or use Lua on
Wikidata to access data in items? Please read on.
The JSON format returned by the API and what we use to store the data
internally has been different for a long time. This has been a
headache as people had to deal with two different JSON serializations.
We've fixed this now to only use one. This means the format you get in
the XML dumps, via Special:Export and when accessing the raw item page
content via Lua will change to be the same as what you get from the
API. We plan to deploy this change on August 26th.
This is one of the remaining blockers for statements on properties and
further progress on Commons support.
I'm sorry for the disruption. If you need help with adapting your
tools please let me know.
Cheers
Lydia
