The idea is that Wikipedia is an honored place, devoted to learning and wisdom.

Hi,
Japanese translation is nearly ready.
One part I'm not sure about is the sentence "It is like a temple for the mind."
What effect is the sentence supposed to have?
A word-to-word translation into Japanese might make it too much 'religious'.
I'm wondering if I should try avoiding making Wikipedia look like a religion.
Cheers,
Whym

Fellow translators,
I have just noticed that there are some new messages to translate on the Payflow Pro Gateway extension at translatewiki.net. Don't know whether they are being used in the 2010 Fundraiser, but thought I would mention this in case they are.
Regards,
Eleri James
No, this is incorrect. We will publish every translation, just as we have for every appeal. We have no preference for chapter languages.
In some areas chapters refuse to do the same, but the Wmf will publish every translation we are given, as we have all year.

On all wikis? Maybe. But I'm sure, not in all languages. I suppose that
translations into minority languages will be ignored since the language
version of the country chapter is preferred by you. IMHO translating
appeals to minority languages will be waste of time.

Hello Philippe
Our translation is ready. Not just a quick translation, but we had a thorough
look at it.
We're happy to run Jimmy's new appeal as soon as possible.

Just a gentle reminder: we have an appeal from Jimmy up at
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Fundraising_2010/Translation . This one will be
pushed out to all wikis, so we really need it localized as much as possible,
please... any help you can give is gratefully appreciated.

Hi all
I have recently joined the fundraiser team - for the Netherlands. And as part of this task have just subscribed to this list. I was hapy to see two messages of other editors asking for proofreading and other things.
I have read the new Jimmy appeal - as it said 'needs proofreading' I checked it and 'localized' it, and took out some mistakes.
If anyone wants to hear why I changed the things I did, I am happy to answer your questions.
I am still puzzled by the phrase "... and leave the waste to others " in the original letter. I kept it in the Dutch version - even though I don't know what Jimmy means. I would welcome responses to that question. (In fact, without any explanation I am inclined to leave it out - it is not my idea of a good persuasive text to leave in empty words.)
As we want to start using it as soon as possible, I would very much appreciate if someone could (proof)read it one more time.
Thank you very much,
Corinne

The new appeal by Jimmy Wales, translated into Dutch: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Fundraising_2010/Jimmy_appeal_2/nl
Hi,
The Vietnamese translation for Jimmy's appeal 2 has been done, I really need
someone to proofread, because it is not an easy translation.

Liebe Übersetzer,
auch Wikimedia Deutschland möchte den zweiten Jimmy-Wales-Aufruf
schalten und dafür brauchen wir eure Unterstützung. Deshalb würde ich
mich sehr freuen, wenn ihr euch der Herausforderung "temple for the
mind" zu übersetzen, annehmen würdet. Unter
http://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Fundraising_2010/Jimmy_appeal_2…
gibt es bereits eine erste Übersetzung. Für Rückfragen rund um die
Lokalisierung stehe ich euch gerne zur Verfügung.
Vielen Dank.
