I'm currently having wifi issues so I regret to say that I'm unlikely to
make the standup today
Here's my status:
Yesterday I was working on finishing/testing the beta, writing a blog post
with Tomasz for it
Today I've finished off that blog post (collected images/minor tweaks) and
have been working on some post beta tweaks and reviewing feedback
Also have been looking at an issue with the android app that Yuvi pointed
me at but sadly without any solution
Going to continue with both these activities including the contact page
redesign
Blockers:
In the footer on the new beta the copyright has a contact link as it comes
from the Wikimedia-Copyright page -
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki_talk:Wikimedia-copyright#Removing_co…
In addition to this I want 'About Wikipedia' label to be just 'About' and
'Privacy Policy' to just be about 'Privacy' - however the two functions I'm
using to get these are $privacyLink = $skin->privacyLink(); and $aboutLink
= $skin->aboutLink(); - is there anyway I could pass my own label to these
two functions. e.g privacyLink("Privacy") If someone can work on this with
me please ping
I think the code to only display data charge warnings on image click thrus
if X-Carrier == DIGI either got factored out in the de-wmf-ification or was
lost in merging.

Prototype is here : http://jonrobson.me.uk/wikipedia/#

I think it's better removed but what are other people's thoughts?

If you click more information in the footer you'll see
"Wikipedia® is a registered trademark of the Wikimedia Foundation,
Inc., a non-profit organization."
which is part of the text in
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Wikimedia-copyright
However I don't want the rest of the text here
And I don't want to interfere with the desktop site...

Patrick any thoughts?
As some of you know I'm working on Heather's designs for
MobileFrontend (see http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Mobile_design) - a
webkit preview version of which you can view here -
http://jonrobson.me.uk/wikipedia/#
I'm keen to make the finishing touches to the footer, expandable
sections and full screen search and spend some time looking at older
mobile browsers to make sure they look and function acceptably and get
this all checked into svn - I can then plan to move on to the
reference reveal and contact form which I'm sure I'll need some help
on.
There are 3 things I'm not sure about how to deal with so would
appreciate your thoughts...
#1: Copyright text
One of the things that's causing me headaches is Heather quite rightly
in her designs throws away a lot of the links from the footer and
tidies up the copyright/license text (See the footer in
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/File:Mobile_end_expand.png). As you can
see this basically rearranges the text in
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Wikimedia-copyright
Can anyone see an easy way to do this? Ideally I'd want a way to
access the copyright notice and the license from within the
MobileFrontend to allow other non-Wikipedia sites to customise this
text.
#2: Missing footer links
The links 'View this page on regular Wikipedia', 'Disable images on
mobile site' and 'Permanently disable mobile site' disappear from the
footer. The last 2 I think can be lived without, and I would imagine
these would be better places in a settings page anyhow however view
this page on regular wikipedia is. I think the best place for this in
the time being is to move it into the navigation menu (revealed when
you click the mediawiki logo) and to shorten the text to 'desktop'
site. Does anyone have objections to this?
#3: New footer links
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/File:Mobile_end_expand.png
Could someone tell me how I can generate the footer from php
Do Contact, Privacy, About, Disclaimer always point to the same pages?
How can I generate the correct urls and labels for these pages and
check for their existance?
Thanks for your help!

@rakugojon
For those of you who read Wikipedia in more than one language, your opinion
of the following would be extremely helpful:
On the main site, switching to another language by selecting other language
versions of an article switches the language in the search bar.
On mobile, is it better to switch the language of the article and not the
search language?
Those of you using the Android app currently have the separated experience
- article language is not necessarily the same as the search language. This
is based on the belief that searches would usually be done in one main
language, even though the article may be read in more than one language.
On the desktop, keeping multiple tabs open makes it easy to return to the
main language for further searches.
Or, should the search language change with the article language?
What is your preference?
Thanks for your feedback.

I was wondering if there has been any analysis on the types of
browsers that users use to access MediaWiki sites. I've been working
on the MobileFrontend extension and am keen to understand the audience
better. I've had a look around the internet but it's a big place and
I've not found anything yet. :)
In particular I was interested if there is any evidence that certain
people in certain countries use Wikipedia's/other mediawiki instance
mobile site on desktop computers due to the lower page size/load and
what browsers they use to do this.
Grateful for any light that can be shed on this subject.
Thanks in advance!
