I've installed mediawiki.
My toolbar edit doesn't exist. I check in preferences if I put show
toolbar. I test with Konqueror 3.5.5, Internet Explorer 6, iceweasel
2.0.0.2 but it doesn't works.
Offhand there's two main possibilities:
1) The JavaScript is broken
2) The button images are broken
For the first, check the browsers' JavaScript error consoles for any
problems. For the first and the second both, check that $wgStylePath is
set correctly and that the skins directory is there and all its contents
available.
Check the paths used in the actual HTML output for loading wikibits.js
and for referencing the images and confirm that they work.
(Another possibility might be that you're using some sort of proxy
software that strips out all JavaScript by default, and you forgot to
disable it for your wiki.)
