I have a large number of hierarchical product types that I'd like to
automatically feed into our wiki as hierarchical categories (category
tree). How would I do this? Can I have the product types generated
as an XML file and populate a table in MediaWiki? My first thought is
to write an extension to handle this, as one doesn't jump out at me as
already existing.
Thanks
Bill
Hi
I doubt there is an easy to do this, but I thought I would throw it out
there. I'm looking for away for file uploads to be automatically named in
an unique way when uploaded. Currently I have users who overwrite other
photos by uploading photos with bland names, like:logo. I use semantic
forms that does have this feature, but only if you set the mime type. Need
to find an easier method that doesn't force the user to figure out if the
photo they're uploading is a jeg. gif, png, etc.
Anyways anyone have any thoughts on this? Maybe a way to automatically add
a time date stamp to the file's name? Or any other thoughts?
Thanks
hello, can you please help me with this:
I recently installed mediawiki on Centos6.5 and after following the instructions for adding HTML and JS to
wikipages:
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Adding_HTML_to_wiki_pages (the page was last modified on 22 August 2014, at 21:10.)
I can't use no simple javascript with wikimedia ...
First I checked in LocalSettings.php:
$wgUseSiteJs = true;
$wgAllowUserJs = true;
$wgAllowUserCss = true;
My Mediawiki is completely empty so I put Inside
MediaWiki:YourScript.js nothing else than:
var helloWorld = document.getElementById('helloWorldID');
newPageElement.innerHTML = '<script type="text/javascript">
document.write('<b>Hello World</b>');
</script>';
also in MediaWiki:Common.js I have just one single code:
importScript('MediaWiki:YourScript.js');
and for the Template:helloWorld I did only that:
<div id="helloWorldID"></div>
and in MediaWiki:YourScript it stand one word:
{{helloWorld}}
... nothing happens (also after refresh, shift f5 etc.)
Hello, I'm still wondering why javascript won't work wiht me ...I try a toolbar modification now. In MediaWiki:Common.js and User:Me/common.js but still nothing happens:
get the basic setup form here:
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:WikiEditor/Toolbar_customization#B…
and the costumization snippet from here:
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:WikiEditor/Toolbar_customization/L…
var customizeToolbar = function() {
$('#wpTextbox1').wikiEditor('addToToolbar', {
section: 'main',
group: 'format',
tools: {
"strikethrough": {
label: 'Strike',
type: 'button',
icon: '//upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/30/Btn_toolbar_rayer.png',
action: {
type: 'encapsulate',
options: {
pre: "<s>",
post: "</s>"
}
}
}
}
});
};
/* Check if view is in edit mode and that the required modules are available. Then, customize the toolbar . . . */
if ( $.inArray( mw.config.get( 'wgAction' ), [ 'edit', 'submit' ] ) !== -1 ) {
mw.loader.using( 'user.options', function () {
// This can be the string "0" if the user disabled the preference ([[bugzilla:52542#c3]])
if ( mw.user.options.get( 'usebetatoolbar' ) == 1 && mw.user.options.get( 'showtoolbar' ) == 1 ) {
$.when(
mw.loader.using( 'ext.wikiEditor.toolbar' ),
$.ready
).then( customizeToolbar );
}
} );
}
// Add the customizations to LiquidThreads' edit toolbar, if available
mw.hook( 'ext.lqt.textareaCreated' ).add( customizeToolbar );
please help me with that ...

Hello everyone in general and members of the Wiki Co-op user group in particular,
I just added to and reworked our group description:
https://www.mediawiki.org/w/index.php?title=Groups%2FProposals%2FWiki_Co-op…
Now I'd be very happy if you could look over this and add your comments (on the talk page). In particular, I think we need to elaborate a bit on the introduction section. Please keep in mind we want to discuss and finalize this at our meeting on Friday.
Thanks for your help and improvements,

Hi,
I was just wondering what the best way to upgrade extensions was?
Usually what I do is what's written in the tutorial:
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Upgrading#Upgrade_extensions
either download the version of extension for the Mediawiki version or do
a pull from git.
Is there or is anyone looking at creating a framework to "auto update"
extensions?
Basically taking a look at the version number of the wiki and comparing
that to the extension version then checking up to an online resource to
see if they are in sync. If not, pull the new extension over and merge
all the "specific" config files.
- This would be really useful to save time when many extensions are
installed, and/or many config files have been edited.

Kaya
Hello John:
I forgot to mention that. I did disable the (WikiSEO) extension this morning.
The problem with the images recurred after I disabled it. Also, I
haven't had code in the wiki that would call the WikiSEO extension
since August 28. So, I am doubtful that this is the underlying cause.
I have considered taking down the citation generator... but I am
doubtful the problem lies there as it is a stand alone application.
Beyond that, I have awstats installed -- but that install precedes the
problem by several weeks and also is unrelated to MediaWiki.
Above stated, I have to do more reading to find more ideas about what
could be wrong. PHP memory settings is one idea. Memory something is
my hunch at the moment.
I will reboot the server when I have a chance -- see if that gets back
the images. I suspect this will temporarily make it seem the problem
is gone.
Thanks,
Michael
Hello,
I tried posting a few days ago... but mixed-up the email addresses.
Hopefully, this one finds the right place.
I am still having a problem where the images (from the InstantCommons)
disappear.
A few days ago I thought it might be related to memory. So, I upgraded the
RAM from 1 GB to 2 GB.
Interesting is that if I reboot the server the problem seems to resolve --
at least temporary. I did that this morning. Disappointing is that the
problem is back.
The site I am running doesn't have that much on it. It is a Debian
(stable) server. The only thing other than MediaWiki (and the debian
packages to run MediaWiki) is the cite-gen
code ( http://librepathology.org/cite-gen/ ) for references. I cannot
imagine it is the cite-gen code.
The emailed I sent before is below, as is a few snapshots from 'top' that
show the memory situation this morning.
Any help would be appreciated!
Michael

Hello,
I am looking for help with a problem that has arisen recently.
I posted this here:
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Project:Support_desk#InstantCommons_..._imag…
I suppose this mailing list is a better place for it.
Issue:
---
The WikiCommons images on a site I am running disappeared.
---
Set-up:
---
I am using the InstantCommons feature - configuration:
$wgUseInstantCommons = true;
I have not configured "$wgForeignFileRepos", as described here:
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:$wgUseInstantCommons
(AFAIK, a default is set by "$wgUseInstantCommons".)
I see that someone else has had this issue -- based on a message here (
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Talk:InstantCommons#Why_all_the_.jpg_files_f… ); however,
no
resolution
is described.
I do note that there is a limit on downloads (1GB?), as described
here. I don't think that I am near that.
I didn't change settings on the wiki recently. I did add the extension
WikiSEO a few days
ago. I cannot image this is the problem.
The wiki is here: http://librepathology.org
The version information: MediaWiki 1.23.2, PHP 5.4.4-14+deb7u14, MySQL
5.5.38-0+wheezy1
-- see http://librepathology.org/wiki/index.php/Special:Version
---
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
