Christopher replied:
The path is set to www/tmp, it exists, and it is writable. The problem
is still there. Any other ideas? This error makes the wiki about as
useful as a text file stored on our file server.

We are getting the same message for some users (me! -- I'm the research
administrator of the project, someone else is the wiki administrator). But
if I just ignore the error I can edit and save as I'm used to doing. I still
don't like having the error message, it's a signal that something's going
wrong.

What do you base this assumption upon?
Database speed should be nearly log(N). So unless you're doing
something really huge, you should not notice much (if any) slowdown
with more pages. Increasing your database table size by a factor of
ten should only halve the access speed.

I don't see how this will help performance much, except for things
that deal with history, which would then be broken anyway. So don't
use history features, and it won't slow you down for reading! (Yes,
writing is impacted by history, but again, it shouldn't be much.)
> Right now I'm running the app on a shared system.
That may be the problem!
Have you checked other things? What's your load average? What does top
(1) say? How full is your network pipe? What is your network latency?
Is MySQL overloaded with other apps accessing it?
These (and others) are things you should start examining before
assuming MediaWiki has anything to do with it.

We have just setup a company wiki.
The Versions page reports:
* MediaWiki: 1.7.1
* PHP: 5.1.2 (apache2handler)
* MySQL: 5.0.22-community-nt
We're having a problem which a google/google groups/mediawiki help
search did not resolve.
When a user is logged in they are unable to perform any actions. And
when editing a page one gets this error after clicking "Save Page":
"Sorry! We could not process your edit due to a loss of session data.
Please try again. If it still doesn't work, try logging out and logging
back in."
As a result everyone is anonymously editing pages, which is a big
problem. I've attempted logging out/in. Using Firefox & IE. Clearing
the brower's cache/cookies/passwords. And also making sure that 'Show
preview on first edit' is not checked under Preferences.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,

Hello,
I want to check if the text of the pages contains "<CourseLinks" so
"Special:Allpages" isn't enough for me.
Thanks, Assaf

Hi,
we run three wikis (different languages) on one server with configured
interwiki links. Additionally there is one wiki-commons for them all.
Q.:
Is it possible to include articles or templates in wiki-commons which
are residing in the article/template name space of the three "language
wikis"?
Or:
Is there an option to switch on/off this feature?
IF THIS QUESTION IS TOO STUPID PLEASE HELP WITH A LINK INTO THE DOCU (I DIDNŽT FIND THIS TOPIC UNTIL NOW.)

Looking forward to your suggestions...

Hello,
I need that all pages (from main namespace) without the text "<CourseLinks" will
be displayed at a special page. The special page should be like
Special:Newpages page but displayed that data. I look at the search engine, but
I don't understand what is the query that will return that data.
Thanks, Assaf

Forget what I said your other pages take almost as long
Special Pages = <!-- Served by the-good-food-guide.com in 14.68 secs.
-->
You should turn on page caching this is available in localsettings.php,
this can help a lot.
Also you should try running a couple of non database driven php pages to
see what is causing the slowdown.

Have you tried removing the Google map, these can take a long time to
load especially if it is drawing data from else ware.

In my view, it's the shared host. If you click on "Random Resto", then
the
pages still take far longer than I would expect - there's nothing in a
standard page that looks too complex. Try a "divide and conquer"
approach
deleting different bits of the page which you think might be causing the
problem.
Otherwise, query it with the host, and I suppose eventually, change
host.
:-( Sorry!

Thanks, that was my first thought. There wasn't much of an improvement.
I also tried comparing the time results on a page in the wiki which
didn't have a google map. There is a pretty large difference ( 10-15
seconds ), but the total load time is still between 13-18 seconds. I'm
not sure if I expect too much.... think it's the template I'm using????
I'm stumped !!

Thanks, That was really useful, seems that zend optimizer has been
installed and is listed as enabled.
I use the free speed test service to check its speed, and it shows me
anywhere betweeen 30-50 seconds ( which is huge ) to open up the main
page.
http://the-good-food-guide.com
Now my main page is pretty large, I figure that's probably why , but
when I try testing some of the content pages inside the site. It still
comes back with a time for 15-20 seconds...
It might be coz there's another process running on the same CPU hoggin
resources....
Thoughts?

Nice idea... tried running the following simple code...
http://the-good-food-guide.com/test1.php . And tested the time taken to
return a results, less than 5 seconds !!! so I guess its' probably the
time spent on the DB. I know this is a long shot but any chance I can
improve the speed of access???
Thanks,
AJ
