Hi,
I have created an extension for references on a local wiki and i want to
create a page for each reference entered once the user hits Save Page. Could
someone guide me on how to create a page for this. I ahve also created a
separate reference namespace.
Thanks,

Hey guys, here's what I'm trying to do.
I'm setting up a MediaWiki website for a scientific association and
instead of relying only on collaborative writing, it's also important
that members be allowed to write "signed" articles on a subject that
may already exist.
What I'd like to do is include a string in the
[[MediaWiki:Nogomatch]] that would allow the user to create the
desired article after a failed search, redirecting him to this page:
User:Username/Article
The original article page would then act as a disambiguation page
listing all articles written on a particular topic.
It should be simple enough but I just can't find the proper variable
to use for the username in my template. I looked at theses pages:
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Variablehttp://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Magic_words
but couldn't find what I'm looking for. Any hints? Is there a built
in template maybe for "wgUser"? Or maybe even a simpler way to
achieve this goal?
I originally posted my question over here if anyone's interested on
this topic:

Thanks,
Stéphane
Hi,
sorry, if this question was posted and answered over and over again;
I did google for it quite heavily and didn't find a glue:
- mediawiki soft: version 1.5.5
- server soft: Mac OS 10.4.4 server
The users using my experimental wiki http://wiki.ltett.lu are getting
password reminders or other e-mail notifications with a wrong "mail
from" / reply-to e-mail address, www(a)comett.ltettdomain.ltett.lu,
though the localsettings.php file has got the two lines
$wgEmergencyContact = "alex(a)olinger.net";
$wgPasswordSender = "alex(a)olinger.net";
This is causing problems, as the domain name used isn't technically
correct and mail got rejected by some mail servers checking the
domain name in the "mail from" SMTP command.
I want to put my own e-mail address in the mails sent from the
mediawiki soft.
Any ideas how this could be set up correctly?
Best regards,
Alex

Please note: This e-mail is DIGITALLY SIGNED!
A valid digital signature means essentially two things:
- You can trust the IDENTITY of the sender:
Yes, it's really Alex Olinger who send you this message!
- The INTEGRITY of the message is guaranteed:
Nobody or nothing altered the content of the message after if
it left my computer.
Unfortunately some mail applications, especially webmail, cannot
handle digital signatures.

I am trying to (without much success) to figure out how to upgrade my
system using CVS
If I run the following:-
cvs -z9 -d:pserver:anonymous:@cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/wikipedia co
-rREL1_5 -P phase3
I connect to the server and it downloads the files to a directory called
phase3 in the directory from where I run the command.
What I have is a pruned version of Mediawiki in a directory called "w".
I then use symbolic links to that directory.
How do I modify the command line so that it updates to the directory
name I want and only updates the files that are present??
Thanks
Laurie
In building our wiki, we want to use many of the templates wikipedia uses.
These can be copied on individual pages and pasted into our templates. Is
there an easier way (perhaps to download some script to populate our wiki
with the templates used by wikipedia?)
I've searched and found some helpful pages on database dumps and
special:export via xml on articles-but these don't seem to *just* include
the template pages.
Thanks,
Jonathan
Hello to every one:
One day, all words which take one or more ascents with in are going to be
rightly shown in the address bar of any browser in the future? when? Or not?
why?
I am asking that because I am a Portuguese speaking, who like to see a clear
address for my pages in the address bar. So, in the case, there are no plans to
fix this problem, I would rather misspelling the name of my pages for the sake
of beauty than write them rightly.
Thanks a lot, mauro.

The spam protection filter kicked in today because one of the urls was "tinyurl.com"
I don't want that blocked. It is a very helpful too for shortening long URLs.
How do I disable that block?

When I upload a file on my server that runs MW, I get the error message: "It
is recommended that you not upload a file bigger than <foo>. Your file is
<foo+1024k>." and then I'm given the opportunity to continue anyway. Since
it is my server, and almost every file I upload is about 1.5mb, where can I
change this (what $wg variable??) so that I do not have to go through the
warning every time?
TIA

Hi all,
First, thank you so much for all your help.
I get another question though:
I would like to have my toolbox appear just for logged users.
Anyone around has this little hack?
Thanks again, mauro.
