Hello everyone. I'm wondering if there is a way to
convert an existing wiki from PMWiki to MediaWiki?
It's a not a very big site, so it may be better to do
it by hand, but I'm wondering what's possible.
Thanks,
Eric

Hi,
I tried to install Wikimedia 1.4rc1 on a French provider (free.fr) and I had
the following problem: wikimedia says it cannot connect to the db.
I found that mysql_errno() in config/index.php returns "", and not a number
so it always reaches the default branch of the switch near line 454.
So, I managed to make the initial install by adding a 'case ""' near the
'case 2000'.
(But then I got login problems. I'll post more details later...(Yes, cookies
are sent, I can see them in my 'cookie manager'))
Cheers,

I had analogical problem with the SpecialMessages. After the update to
rc1 (via console) - which worked fine, - all special messages changed to
the ones supplied by the new files. But now, two days after, I have
noticed that the original messages are on place. Probably delayed
caching problem.

Hi,
I have just installed Mediawiki and finished configuring it, and there
are two annoying issues I cannot seem to solve. If these questions
have been answered before, sorry, I could not find the list archives!
1) Is there anyway to automatically convert a single linebreak into a
<br> in the editing box?
2) How can I put that little blue wikipedia Icon that indicates that
a link is external? Cant seem to find that setting anywhere.
Thanks

Hello all,
This is my first and I wonder if I am in a right mailing list. What I
try to do is: Right after hitting Save Page button, it would trigger a
javascript routine (to do some string manipulation) then trigger a php
subroutine (to save a string of text into a designated existing page
i.e. SpecialText) before resume back to normal task (saving the curent
page.)
Would someone give a hint how to hook it up. Thanks in advance!

Hi all,
I have a question to all recipients regarding the user interface (screen
layout) of Recent Changes and Watchlist pages (perhaps also PageHistory).
It is, that I proposed to introduce *one new link* for lines showing
watched pages, which are currently marked in bold. The current screens
show the links (diff) (hist) and I propose to introduce a thrid one:
(diff-to-LVR) LVR = last visited revision.
Wish to receive your proposals for a changed screen layout ......
- how would *you* arrange the screens
- proposal for the short text for such a link ? (diff-to-LVR) is
not neat enough

Hi,
I am running a wiki with MediaWiki 1.4rc1 and I wanted to allow users
to access local files in their computer from the wiki by defining a
set of interwiki links thus,
lfc file:///C:/$1
lfd file:///D:/$1
and so on
So one could have in his userpage something like
[[lfc:whatever.txt]] thus pointing to file:///C:/whatever.txt
Of course to other users this will be meaningless as their local disk
will be different.
Well it does not work. The interwiki link is interpreted correctly but
when you press the link nothing happens. What is the problem? And
could it be done any other way?
So does MediaWiki catch a <math> tag, even if $wgUseTex is disabled?
I've commented that line out of LocalSettings.php and tried to use
WikiTex to render my mathematics and I get the actuall text printed to
the screen (example at http://pyarie.sf.net/index.php/Sandbox/). I
wonder if that's because MediaWiki catches the <math> tag before it can
be processed by WikiTex?
By the way, WikiTex is pretty amazing. For those looking to render other
types of TeX based output (there was a message a bit ago about it), you
should check this out. There's even a package to translate into J.R.R.
Tolkien's Elvish script. Pretty crazy!
Cheers,
-JW

Hello,
My last post entitled "captcha" wasn't clear :-))
Has anybody installed one of those little crypted image with numbers,
that people have to rewrite in a textbox before sending his/her post?
I think it becomes on some wikis, a necessity, although it remains a
problem for visual deficient persons ... but sound captcha are a
possible alternative even if the number of pre-recorded sounds is small
