I'm trying to use the mediawiki API on pt.wikipedia to create a Firefox Add-on to login and read/write to wikipedia

I tried many times and in many wayes to login but I'm not able to do it using my account.

There are any way to login / edit / read data from wikipedia using a normal user/password from a html page + JS from a firefox add-on?
