Hi Tim,
In answer to your question about integrating i18n maps inside a map gadget, we’re not sure from the example you show which gadget you’re referring to.

The one thing I will say is that, depending what wiki you work on, you may not need to use a gadget to do what you want to do. Full mapframe functionality, with i18n, will be available in May for most Wikipedias. Here’s an announcement to that effect that is in the process of being distributed worldwide [1]. (If German Wikipedia is your main wiki, however, I do have to add that de.wiki is not on the list [2] for this release because of Flagged Revisions;  a notice about that is being translated for distribution [3].

Anyway, I’ll try to get an answer to your question if you can tell us a little more. It  it would be helpful if you could take the discussion to the Map Improvements 2018 talk page [4], where it will be easier for some members of my team to participate. Thanks.

Joe

Great feature, thanks a lot.

Is the server-setup ready to take up some load?
If there will be no veto in the next days I would like to integrate the
i18n map as default inside the map-gadget we have in different language
versions of Wikipedia. It could looks than like this[1] (Example in German).

You can now display maps in languages of your choice on testwiki. I made
two pages to demonstrate the new features, on testwiki [1] and testwiki2
[2] (embedded maps on test2 are dynamic; those on test are static until
you click to pop up an enlargement).

By default, internationalized maps display in the language of the wiki
(which is English for the testwikis). So to experiment with these
features, you’ll want to use the two new mapframe parameters we’ve
added. Just insert them into your map frame tags.

 *
lang=”xx”  Shows map labels in the language you specify with the
short language codes used for each wiki.
 *
lang=“local”Shows map labels in the languages of the territory
mapped (essentially opting out of internationalization).

Right now, internationalization works only with mapframe, not maplink
(which should be working some time next week). You can read more about
this new feature and how to use it on the Map Improvements 2018 project
page, under Updates [3].Our plan is to wait a week or two and assess
user comments about the feature. At that point, we’ll decide whether to
move forward with a general release or keep making fixes.

So please try the new features out  and leave feedback on the Map
Improvements 2018 talk page [4] . We’re listening!

Yours,
Joe
