Hi all!

Bob would be correct - at the moment, we do have a grant up for review and will be looking for local (or remote) Wikipedians who may be interested in working with us. If you are one of those folks and see this email, please feel free to reach out any time. We'd love to hear from you. We are very excited to work with the St. Louis Public Library on this event and do some work on Wikipedia with the local community while our national meeting is in town.

The grant is also up and if you can't attend, but support the event, we'd love your endorsement!

Hi folks,

See the notice below.  There will be an editathon associated with the Music Library Association annual conference in St. Louis on February 24.  As far as I know, the organizers have not actively reached out to anyone in the local community (save for the St. Louis Public Library).  I've heard that there are Wikipedians in St. Louis - perhaps associated with one of the schools.  This is a great opportunity to foster community through collaboration.  Don't hesitate to contact Michelle if you have ideas or want to participate.

Subject: [MLA-L] Wikipedia Edit-A-Thon POST MLA (Feb. 24)
To: <mla-l@list.indiana.edu>

Dear collective wisdom,

This is a friendly reminder that with the opening up of MLA registration today, so to is registration open for the Wikipedia Edit-A-Thon! It's FREE!

The MLA Emerging Technologies and Services Committee (ETSC) and the Digital Humanities Interest group are pleased to present a post MLA, on February 24, 2019. We will be meeting at the St. Louis Public Library Central Branch in their Training Room, 1-5pm.

This particular edit-a-thon will focus on editing or creating Wikipedia entries (and associated Wikidata) for underrepresented performers and composers, living or deceased, who were born in St. Louis and/or lived and worked there. These a folks currently excluded from existing documentation and whose stories should have some sunshine cast on them.

Not only is the Edit-a-thon a good event for everyone to augment or further enhance their professional toolkit by creating and manipulating Wikipedia entries, it is a great chance for participants to help MLA fulfill part of its mission to collaborate with libraries to foster information literacy and lifelong learning. We hope to get involvement from members of the local community in St. Louis and MLA members.

Do not be deterred if this this is your first chance to be a maker or editor of a Wiki page. The event will be led by very capable instructors Angela Pratesi and Anna Kijas with help from the ETSC Committee.

We will provide:
TRAINING for EVERYONE
LUNCH, snacks and drinks during the event
CHROMEBOOKS if you don't have access to a laptop.

Questions? Don't hesitate to ask or reply to this email.

See you in St. Louis!

Michelle Urberg (on behalf of the ETSC)
