Hi All,

Apologies for those of you who will have seen this email twice, but I wanted to make sure that this information got spread around widely.

As a followup from the GLAM coordinators meetup at Wikimania, I wanted to clarify more broadly provide you a couple followup items: a) a list of communication channels, b) some asks for help and c) instructions for Phabricator for GLAM.

Communications channels

One of the questions that came up during the meetup, was what are the best ways to reach the Gobal GLAM-Wiki Community.  Here are the communications channels, that I am aware of (please let me know if I am missing anything:
  • If you aren't already on them, the best communications channels for the GLAM wiki community are the mailing lists: https://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/GLAM/Mailing_lists . Both GLAM-L (the public list) and cultural-partners (the private list for coordinating confidential issues), are great resources and have a lot of good signal to noise.
  • This Month in GLAM -- Every month Romaine publishes a monthly reflection on what happened in GLAM. Make sure to fill out the reports for your region by the 7th day after the end of the month. Anyone can report GLAM-Wiki events, and it helps folks, at a glance, learn what you are working on: https://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/GLAM/Newsletter
  • Increasingly several Facebook groups are helping with communications and quick consultations with other GLAM-Wiki leaders:
  • Twitter -- #glamwiki and @GLAMWiki are both fairly active, and are great tools for connecting with other #openglam advocates and GLAM professionals.
Please use these channels to engage the wider community, ask questions, and find support.

Social media helpers

I am also looking for three helpers for these channels, which will likely take 3-4 hours a month, specifically:
  • Another person, who can actively work with the @glamwiki channel on Twitter.
  • Someone to help Romaine with social media for This Month in GLAM.
  • Additional list-admins for cultural-partners.
Please let me know if you can help.

Giving Phabricator a Try

One of the main concerns from the Wikimania meetup, was not finding support for work amongst other community members. As part of the upcoming This Month in GLAM, I describe how we can use two new Phabricator queues for developing support for problems best solved by other GLAM-Wiki contributors -- please let me know if you have questions. See it at https://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/GLAM/Newsletter/June_2016/Contents/WMF_GLAM_report

I will be developing better, more thorough guidance on outreach Wiki if it proves useful for folks working in GLAM-Wiki spaces.

Cheers,

Alex Stinson
