Note the usage of shouldn't. Screen readers, browser and operating
systems are notoriously bad at consistently and accurately
implementing some of this stuff..

Yes, that would be very bad, especially if they overlap with a-z.

I actually meant using the corresponding code points, like using 1f527 for a spanner icon, etc.
