3. (S)he tries google image search for

4. 37 images found - no profit, user goes away
Variant B:
1. Someone finds commons

Oh, there is a link to "google-search all wikipedias" on our search
page. Let's see...
1970 images found. All on sites that have nothing to do with
wiki(m|p)edia. Much better already.
See what I'm getting at here?

You probably know that already, but you can search for
more images
(around 1,5 million indexed right now) by using
upload.wikimedia.org
instead of
commons.wikimedia.org:
http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10&hl=en&q=site%3Aupload.wiki…
Unfortunately this also includes the fair use uploads.

37 results, all from other sites that show commons images directly
from our server :-(
If google is really incapable of indexing pages that don't end on
".html", maybe we should set the apaches so they'll serve the content
of
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Stanley_pontlarge_church.JPG
under
http://commons.wikimedia.org/stupid_search_engines/Image:Stanley_pontlarge_…
as well...
